Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre

Bringing the thrill of science and discovery together with the pioneering ingenuity of the early oil patch, the Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre preserves and interprets history while instilling a sense of excitement for the future. This famous discovery marked the birth of Western Canada’s modern oil industry and has been called one of the most important economic discoveries in Canada’s history!

A truly unique museum experience awaits you at the famous Leduc #1 National Historic Site. Experience 80 acres of outdoor/indoor exhibits and 23,000 sq. ft. of scale models, fossils, working rigs, antique equipment, theatre, library and archives and much more!

The site is open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily (closed Sundays for Nov - Mar) and is located just 10 minutes west of the Edmonton International Airport; junction of Hwy 60 & 19.

Devonian Botanic Gardens

With 190 acres to explore, the University of Alberta Devonian Botanic Garden has something to offer the plant enthusiast, the nature-lover, families and visitors of all ages seeking to spend some idyllic hours in beautiful natural surroundings.

Out of the city (but only minutes away), the Garden has 80 acres of display gardens and 110 additional acres of natural areas and ecological preserves. Features include indoor display greenhouses, a butterfly house, outdoor displays of annuals and perennials, the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, rose, lilac and peony collections, herb gardens, a native peoples’ garden, an extensive alpine garden, a sensory and healing garden and more. Visitors can find a natural handmade treasure at the Crafters Workshop or a special gift at the charming Shop-in-the-Garden. Gardeners will appreciate the unique and unusual annuals and perennials offered at the plant sale. Guided tram tours are a great way to learn more about the Garden in seated comfort.

Parkland County

The opportunities for outdoor lovers to spend a fantastic day in Parkland County are endless. With some of the most scenic areas in the entire province, you have something for everyone – hikers, campers, golfers, boaters, swimmers, bird lovers and more. Town of Devon

Sure you can get here by car…but…on or off road bikers agree the best way to Devon is on the bike. Once here, relax by the river with a picnic or beat the heat at one of the eight local restaurants. After lunch get your heart pounding on the mountain-like trails in the river valley or with an adrenaline pumping jet boat ride. Should you decide to stay, Devon boasts the best campground in the Capital Region. On day two catch a fish, play some golf, and visit the Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre or the Devonian Botanic Gardens. Stop by area greenhouses for the best tomato plants, hanging baskets, perennial and tree selection around. The best way back to the city, not available anywhere else, is in a canoe or jet boat on the historic North Saskatchewan River. We’ll see you again, the next time you need to escape.
